Millennials Hooked To Their Screens May Be Doing More Than Texting… (They Might Just Be Reading)

Guest post by Sierra Delarosa

You’re most likely to catch millennials with their eyes glued to their screens – be it smartphones, tablets, or laptops. After all, we all know how much this particular generation loves digital everything.

But what they’re doing on there may surprise you…because that millennial just might be reading the latest title by your favorite author.

According to Global English Editing’s most recent infographic, millennials are out-reading older adult generations. 80% of 18 to 29 year olds have read a book (in any format) over the last year, as compared to 73% of 30 to 49 year olds, 70% of 50 to 64 year olds, and 67% of 65+ year olds.

And another stat that might surprise you…Despite the fact we now have more ways than ever to access our favorite reads, the most popular format remains the print book. 65% of books read by Americans in 2017 were print, compared to just 28% electronic.

It appears the demand for books with pages we can touch and feel is only rising. Hardcover sales increased by 4.1% in 2017, while e-book sales took a dive by nearly 19%.
