If you are an indie author, you know that marketing your book is crucial for sales. There is no marketing department like at a traditional publisher—you are the marketing department!
However, there are a lot of resources to help you. Some book promotion sites are free, some are paid, some cover a lot of ground, some are targeted. Our philosophy has always been the more places you can get your book on, the better for you. When they are paid sites, however, you have to be more discerning—there is no reason to spend your potential sales money on sites that garner no sales. (Of course, sales is not the only goal of marketing—buzz is important, too. But more on that in a future post.)
Here at Sulis, we offer both free and paid book promotions. But we also encourage authors to use other sources. That’s why we keep track of those we come across. Below are a few sites we have found over the past few month.
- Shout My Book. “Boost your Book with the Power of Social Media Promotion.” This promotion offers three plans: recurring monthly subscription ($9.99/month), one month ($14.99), and 180 day promotion ($49.99). Include blog post, newsletter feature, Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
- BookTweep. “Promote your book to more than 100,000 Readers on Twitter.” Signup required.
- Circle of Books. “For your reading needs.” Primarily for readers, posts short descriptions of books with links to sales channels and sharing links. Not readily apparent how an author can contact the site.
- Sulis International. That’s us! We offer a free promotion and a $15 promotion ($10 until 15 December). Includes blog post, inclusion in our “books” page with links to sales channels, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, G+, and a feature in our newsletter.
