While this is a quicker and easier to digest read – it invokes a bit of self-reflection and allows the reader to see through mid-level leader/manager optics.
“Growing up” in the military – this book reached me in a deeper sense in that the military’s middle managers, or non-commissioned officers – the “sergeants” – the squad leaders – generally it’s the folks on the front lines that make constant, instant decisions with the most accurate information – truly do “run the military,” and in my civilian world “run the company.”
Senior level managers/directors/VPs would find value added in reading this book as all too often, even one degree of separation OR having not been on the front lines for some time will at times cause even the most well-meaning leader’s optics to get a bit fuzzy. It is always wise to pump the brakes now and then, dust off some of the tools that helped the more senior level managers to succeed and reflect. This book serves that purpose!
Kudos to Dr. Retts.
