The positives of an indie author are control, freedom, and high royalties. The negatives, however, are well-known—book promotion being one of the more important. However, there are resources—both free and paid—that will do advertising for you. How well they work depends on a lot of factors (a topic for another post).
Here is a list of top free and paid options.

  1. Sulis International (free and paid). We would be remiss if we did not include our own free service and paid services for social media blasts and blog posts.
  2. eBook Bump (free). Peter runs this book promotion service, and is friendly, helpful, and prompt. “All you have to do is email me at [email protected] with a brief summary of your eBook and a link and I will tweet it for you on my twitter page (www.twitter.com/ebookbump). If I feel you have provided me with enough information, I will also schedule a blog post with a synopsis of your book and some reviews.”
  3. Book Worms & Writers (FREE). Requires a signup for authors. “We cater for Bookworms, Authors and Bloggers, providing free services to all.”
  4. Bedtime Reads (free). Only romance novels that are free or “significantly” discounted.
  5. Book Goodies (free). This site has a long list of free resources for indie authors and promotion
  6. Fiction Conviction Book Blog (FREE). Provides free blog, twitter, and Facebook teasers as well as author interviews.
  7. eBooks Unlimited (free & paid options). Free promos for Kindle Unlimited books. Must register.
  8. ilovebookz.com (FREE). Free book submission through web form.
  9. AskDavid.com (free & paid options). Free book promotion for free eBooks; $15 for paid services. $10 for twitter promotion.
